How to build a packaging product code for EU countries
(Based on simplified EU template with subcategory1 only)
This format is used to declare packaging placed on the market in EU countries that do not require full-level breakdown (like in France).
EPR code structure:
category + subcategory1 + subcategory2 + subcategory3 + subcategory4 + subcategory5
1. Select reporting region
For all EU countries, use:
EU Countries (this label is not part of the code, just a tag)
2. Choose category
Packaging → P
3. Choose subcategory1 — material type
This defines the primary material of your packaging.
See: subcategory1 section
Glass | A |
Plastics | B |
Wood | F |
Others | G |
Aluminium | R |
Paper | S |
Steel | T |
Number of CSU | U |
4. All other subcategories = “None”
- Subcategory2 = 000
- Subcategory3 = 00
- Subcategory4 = 00
- Subcategory5 = 00
These are required to complete the 11-digit structure, even if unused.
Code assembly example
Let’s say:
- Category = Packaging → P
- Material = Plastics → B
Then the code is: PB000000000
If your packaging is made of Paper, the code becomes: PS000000000
